16. South Thailand
The South Thailand Insurgency has its roots back in the mid-20th century. Things took a turn for the worse in 2004, when the religious separatist insurgents escalated the violence. Any optimism that the Thai government nurtured withered in 2010, when the separatists consolidated their forces and sided with the Barisan Revolusi Nasional-Koordinasi group. Since the escalation 6.543 people have been killed.
