11. Sinai, Egypt
The “Sinai Insurgency” started out as a stand-off between Bedouin tribal warriors and Egyptian Security Forces, in the wake of the chaos that ensued after the 2011 Egyptian Revolution. Soon the clashes escalated, attracting ISIS forces in 2014. Today, Sinai lies in ruins, with casualties numbering from 1.800 to 4.000 among combatants, and a civilian population caught between Egyptian troops and ISIS extremists.
