For makeup artists and enthusiasts, brushes are one of the most important tools when it comes to makeup. It is used for blending those eyeshadows, blushes and even highlights. Brushes have such a major role when it comes to makeup application that it is almost impossible for a person who wears makeup, not to have even just one brush. There are tons of kinds of brushes for different uses. Some of them are even very expensive, but do you know how to take care of them? Are you storing them properly? Are you even cleaning them very often? If you need some tips for that, you are definitely in the right place.
STORING YOUR BRUSHES
Most of the brushes people use of makeup, are often made of hair that is why they tend to be very expensive. High quality brushes are definitely worth it so of course you would want them to last for a long time, but are you taking care of them properly by storing them right?

ROLL UP BAG
When buying brushes in a set, they usually come in a roll-up storage and that is one way of storing them. But if you buy brushes by piece so it doesn’t normally go with a roll-up bag. That would save you money, just make sure your brushes are clean when you put them back into the roll-up bag to keep it away from all the bacteria that could go into your face the next time you actually use it. You should also keep the brushes you use for liquid makeup away from the brushes you use with the powdered ones. You can get one at any beauty supply store, cosmetic counters or even drugstores. This way, you can simply store your brush in a separate compartment and their hair wouldn’t be out of shape.

GLASS OR PLASTIC JARS
Another way you could store them is to get a clear plastic or glass jar that is tall enough to store your brushes. Just place them into the jar with the handles at the bottom. If you live in a place where it is always dusty, then get one with a lid to keep your brushes clean and protected from dust and germs. You should also keep them away from the sun. Some synthetic and natural fibers actually wear down over some time if they are exposed from too much sunlight. You should also keep other make up products like lipsticks, eyeshadows and eyeliners away from your brushes since it might stain them. Take care of your brushes the you actually take care of your hair.
CLEANING YOU BRUSHES
Another important thing is to make sure that when you store your brushes, they’re actually clean. Because too much makeup that was being left on it can ruin your brush right away. You can simply clean with the use of water and a mild soap or facial wash, but if you have those brush cleansers that you can get from the stores than by all means use that. You can even use some baby shampoo for it, as long as it is mild. What you have to do is to check the brushes first and see if you used a powder-based or a cream-based makeup. If you used your brush on a cream-based makeup, then it will need a deeper cleaning since there are more products that has been left on that brush.

POWDER-BASED MAKEUP
First thing you need to do is to run your brush into some lukewarm water. Keep in mind that you must only clean the brush bristles itself and not the metal part because the glue on it might come off if it gets wet. Another thing is that you need to use lukewarm water, but NOT hot water since it will definitely damage your bristles. Next thing should do is to fill a bowl with water and mix some mild soap or shampoo on it, then dip your brush while twisting it to make sure the bristles get clean. Rinse if off with some clean water and pat them with a towel and let them dry. However, don’t use any blow dryer or hair straightener to dry your brush because too much heat will ruin it.

CREAM-BASED MAKEUP
Since cream-based makeup is more difficult to clean, you need to use some light olive oil or some almond oil for it, just a drop will do. Dip just the bristles into the oil and swirl it, then run it back and forth on the towel to loosen up all the makeup. You may now wash the bristles on some lukewarm water and repeat the steps from the powder-based makeup. Easy right? So make sure to take care of those brushes because they help you out when it comes to beautifying yourself.
