7. South Sudan
Civil war is sadly a recurring “trend” in Africa and Sudan is no exception. In 2013 President Kiir accused his deputy Riek Machar of attempting to seize power. Violence broke out and soon the country sank into civil war. Up to 300.000 people were killed during the war and almost 3.000.000 people were displaced. A UN-enforced peace treaty was signed in 2015, but has failed to establish a lasting cease-fire.
