1. Aleppo, Syria
Aleppo used to be Syria’s largest city, humming with the lives of its 2.3 million inhabitants. Today, after 4.5 years of bitter civil war between Syrian President Assad’s forces and the hardcore Sunni Islamist rebels, Aleppo is all but obliterated, along with its old town; an Unesco World Heritage site. A ceasefire was implemented in December 2016, leaving behind over 31.000 people dead and hundreds of thousands displaced.
