Maggie Smith, Born In 1934 – The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie

There are only several actors or actresses left who can boast they’ve been active in the film industry for almost half a century, and Dame Maggie Smith is one of the rare few! Hailed as among Britain’s most celebrated stars, her versatility in acting has earned a spot in the hearts of fans of all ages.

Smith has successfully conquered both theater and film throughout her career, with an impressive 58 awards to her name to boot. She may be well into her eighties, but the Dame shows no signs of retiring anytime soon!

Julie Christie, Born in 1940- Swinging Sixties

Murphy Christie was an icon of the Swinging Sixties and known for her numerous accolades, including a Golden Globe and Oscar. In 1997, she received the BAFTA Fellowship that is awarded to just one person annually. It is presented for the outstanding contributions in television or film either behind the scenes or on screen

This beautiful star remains active in the industry and has played a variety of roles. However, she is best known for her role as a “sexy Bohemian” grandmother. In 2011, Julie starred alongside  Amanda Seyfried and Shiloh Fernandez in the Red Riding Hood movie. Her most recent film project was The Company You Keep in 2012.

Twiggy, Born in 1949- The Boy Friend

Dame Lesley Lawson is widely known as Twiggy for her thin body structure. She is an English model, actress, and singer, considered beautiful with big eyes, long eyelashes, and short hair despite having an androgynous appearance. In 1966 Twiggy was named “The Face of 1966” by Daily Express, and following the same year, she was voted as British Woman of the Year.

Later in 1967, Twiggy was a successful model in France, Japan, and the U.S.A. for Vogue and The Tatler’s covers. Also, by 1971, her performance in Boy Friend, she took home two Golden Globe Awards. Currently, Twiggy and her husband, Leigh Lawson, reside in London.

Helen Shapiro, Born in 1946 – You Don’t Know

Helen Kate Shapiro is a British actress, jazz and pop singer. In 1961, two of her songs were UK chart-toppers, You Don’t Know and Walkin’ Back to Happiness. Surprisingly enough, she was just 14 years old when she recorded both these songs. In addition, even before the age of sixteen, Helen was voted Britain’s “Top Female Singer.”

To top it all off, The Beatles’ were an opening act on one of her shows in 1963. The band members John Lennon and Paul McCartney even wrote a song for her called Misery. However, her team declined the song without her knowledge. Shapiro has been married to actor John Judd since 1988.

Barbara Knox, Born in 1933-  Coronation Street

Barbara Knox is a British actress known for her work in Coronation Street as Rita Tanner. Barbara is also known as the longest serving T.V. soap opera actress in the world. However, she was a professional stage actor who made her debut in 1962 with a minor role in a dancing remake of Goodbye, Mr. Chips.

Before that, she worked in a post office and prepared to pass the Civil Service exams. During that period, Knox took part in theatre, which eventually led her to become a great actress. Also, she appeared in T.V. shows like Feel the Width, George and the Dragon, and A Family at War.
