A democratic, socialist guerilla force, the People’s Protection Units (what YPG translates to), have been fighting tooth and claw against ISIS ever since the Syrian Civil War broke out. These warriors’ training simulates fighting in a hellscape of fire and smoke, which must be really close to what Syria looks like today.
